2009 Midget Coaching Staff

John Martins – Head Coach

John resides in White Rock and brings over 20 years of strong coaching experience with him. He started his coaching career in White Rock at the Atom level. In 1990 he was the Defensive Co-ordinator for the WRSS Pee Wee division, in 1991 and 1992, the Offensive Co-ordinator Junior Bantam Division, winning the VFML Champions & Provincial Championships in 1992. In 1993 & 1994, John became the Head Coach of the WRSS Bantam Division where the team took 2nd Place in VFML Championships both years. In 1995 & 1996 John moved up to be the Head Coach WRSS Midget Division where the team made playoffs in 1995 and took 2nd Place in VFML Championship in 1996. John stayed with the WRSS Midget team through 1998. In 1999, he moved on to become the Running Back Coach Junior Surrey Rams (now known as the Big Kahuna Rams) until 2002. In 2003 he coached the Special teams Offense with the North Delta Longhorns Midget team, the VFML & Provincial Champions that year. In 2004, John took on the Offensive Co-ordinator position with the N.D. Longhorns Midget Division with highest scoring offence in VFML & Province. In 2005 he went back to the Rams and took the Offensive Co-ordinator position, boasting the highest scoring offence in BCFC. John spent 2006 through 2008 with the Cloverdale Bengals Midget Division as the Offensive Co-ordinator. In the off season he was the one of the first to introduce and Head Coach the VFML team in the Star Bowl, coaching in the 1997 inaugural year, 1998, 2004 and 2006 through 2008. In 1999, John also coached in the Spring with the Senior Bowl which showcases the talent of 18 year olds each year. John is looking forward to and is excited to be back in White Rock again, coaching with his son, Avery, where he began his coaching career many years before.

 

Avery Martins:

Avery started his football here with WRSS Minor Football, from watching as a kid to playing Atom to Midget. Avery played Community Football from 1994 through 2004, winning the VMFL and Provincial Championships in 2003 and 2004. In 2006 he moved on to play Junior Football and in 2007 stepped up to the ranks of Coach, coaching the Defensive Backs with Cloverdale Midget Division where he stayed through the 2008 Season. In 2008 and 2009, he was one of the coaches from the VMFL to coach the VMFL Star Bowl Midget Team. He is looking forward to being able to continue to coach with his dad and becoming a stronger coach with the new coaches coming on board this season. He is also excited to be back in White Rock as a coach since he played most of my football here. "It is a great opportunity for me to give back to the community that gave so much to me".

 

Phil Deeks:

Phil started his Football career as the Quarterback for Delta Secondary before moving on to winning two BC Junior Championships for the Surrey Rams Junior football (now known as the Big Kahuna Rams) team 1993 - 1994. He then joined the UBC Thunderbirds and was part of their 1997 Vanier Cup National Championship. Phil returned to the Jr. Football Rams Team as Offensive Coordinator 2001-2003. In 2006, he joined the South Delta Rams Bantam team as Offensive Coordinator winning the VMFL and Provincial Championship. Currently teaching Physical Education at Enver Creek Secondary in Surrey, Phil will definitely be a positive addition to our new Midget Team Coaching staff.

 

Chris Bray

Chris is a WRSS Minor Football Veteran, playing for White Rock South Surrey Minor Football from 1990 to 1998. In 1993, he won ‘Best Receiver’ at the Ty Crews Skills Camp. In 1998, as Midget Team Captain, Chris was selected as Receiver for B.C. Provincial All-Star Team. During his Football Career with WRSS Minor Football, Chris has received the following awards: Team MVP, Player Choice Award and the Tedd Sommerville Memorial Award. A Graduate of the University of Calgary in 2004 with a B.Sc in Civil Engineering, he has since been awarded his Professional Engineering License in March of 2009. Chris will bring a positive influence and guidance to our young Midget team.

Sean Dickie

Sean played White Rock Titans Football from 2001-2004 on the offensive and defensive line.Then got a scholarship to SFU and played for 1year on the Offensive line.1n 2005 he played for SF Rams on the Offensive Line ,and during football season played Rugby

  Important Coaches Meeting

June 25th ,730pm at the South Surrey Rec Centre

This is an important  meeting that every coach,should attend as we kick off the 2009 Season . Important decisions will be made at this meeting-all decisions made will be final.Therefore,please make this date in order to have your say.

Agenda items will include

Number of Registered players in each Division

Decision on Multiple Teams within certain Divisions

Team Drafting Procedures

Confirmation of Head Coaches-
